My
Dear Friends,
My
favorite liturgical season of the year is fast approaching. Yes,
I am "one of those" who love the season of Lent.
Lent,
as you may know, is the 40 day period (not counting Sundays) before
Easter. Lent this year begins on Ash Wednesday, February 6, and
ends on Holy Saturday, March 22. It commemorates the 40 days Jesus
spent in the wilderness after His baptism, being tempted by the
devil.
Lent
is a wilderness time. It is a time for prayer, reflection, and
denial. It is a time Christians should probably do something a
little different in their lives . . . with the purpose of being
more faithful in worship and service to our Lord.
So,
come along, let's go through Lent together. We will have special
liturgies on Sunday, a special sermon series, and special suggested
activities to make this season more meaningful.
By
the way, this year our church will usher in Lent with a Shrove
Tuesday Pancake Supper. It will be held on the night before Ash
Wednesday here at the church. Shrove Tuesday gets its name from
the "shriving", or confession, ancient Christians were
expected to receive immediately before Lent.
So,
come along on our journey through Lent. It will bring us to the
Cross and on to the Resurrection of Jesus!
God
Bless You All,
Michael
