My Dear Friends,

This morning I was reading a devotional based on the 23rd Psalm. As we all know, it powerfully begins, “The Lord is my shepherd; I shall not want.”

The writer went on to say that even before God created the first man and woman, already He had prepared the earth for human life. He had positioned the earth at the optimum distance from the sun; He made sure there was enough water; He allowed for vast deposits of oil and other forms of natural resources. The list could go on and on.

Just like the sheep trust their shepherd to lead them, protect them, and provide for them, so our heavenly Father does for us. So, let’s all take a deep breath, calm our troubled spirit, and rest in knowing the Good Shepherd is in charge.

The poet Elizabeth Cheney put it this way:
Said the robin to the sparrow,
“I should really like to know,
Why these anxious human beings
Rush about and worry so.”
Said the sparrow to the robin,
“Friend I think that it must be,
That they have no Heavenly Father,
Such as cares for you and me.”
