20/20 SPIRITUAL EYESIGHT

My Dear Friends,

Each time a new year rolls around it feels like a new life opportunity, a new beginning.

That is exactly where Joshua found himself when he was named as the successor to Moses. The Israelites were poised to enter the Promised Land, but their spiritual record to that point was dismal. Joshua had witnessed shameful behaviors from God’s people on that long journey out of Egypt. These behaviors included worshiping false gods, such as the Golden Calf they had crafted.

It was a new day for them all, a chance to look over their past and decide to get rid of all that was ungodly in their lives. They were entering a new land with new opportunities and “crunch time” had arrived. Like any good leader, Joshua had to step out in front and be the example for them all. His words to his people were (and are!) historic and powerful:

But if serving the Lord seems undesirable to you, then choose for yourselves this day whom you will serve,

whether the gods your ancestors served beyond the Euphrates, or the gods of the Amorites, in whose land

you are living. But as for me and my household, we will serve the Lord.”  -Joshua 24:15

I pray that in the Year of Our Lord, 2020, we will have “20/20” spiritual eyesight and that we will serve the Lord!

Love,

Michael
